Rob Foster

Robert Foster began his professional musical career in Detroit, Michigan. His diverse musical interests led him to study and perform music in many genres. His experiences in jazz, classical, and popular music have included performances with numerous world renown musicians and entertainers, including Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck, James Newton, Charlie Haden, Art Lande, John Denver, Mitch Ryder, the Temptations, The Four Tops, and Olivia Newton-John. He has lived and worked in the Detroit, Los Angeles, and Denver areas. Rob received a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies from Oakland University in Michigan. He received a Master's degree in Flute Performance from Wayne State University in Detroit. He also received a Doctor of Arts degree in Music Theory and Composition from the University of Northern Colorado. He currently resides in Augusta, Georgia, where he is an associate professor of music at Augusta State University. He continues to perform frequently with several ensembles, including the Augusta Jazz Project and the Augusta Symphony.

Art Lande

Originally from New York, Art Lande has been a band leader for over 25 years in San Francisco, Seattle, Switzerland, and Colorado. Art has recorded over 50 albums for several labels, including ECM, Arch, Elektra, and Windham Hill Records. His performances have been described as ". . . introspective and melodic . . . virtually everything he played triggered the emotions as much as the intellect." Mr. Lande has played with jazz greats including Bobby Hutcherson, Woody Shaw, Tom Harrell, Nat Adderly, Chet Baker, Charlie Haden, Eddie Harris, Ernie Watts, Clifford Jordan, Kenny Wheeler, Jimmy Heath, and Dave Liebman. He also worked with vocalists Ernestine Anderson, Jon Hendricks, Jimmy Witherspoon, Mark Murphy, Esther Phillips, and Sheila Jordan. His music for children's stories has been coupled with narration by actresses Meryl Streep, Holly Hunter, and Meg Ryan for Rabbit Ears Productions. These projects were presented on PBS television, and released on CD and video format. In addition, he is fond of interjecting wit and humor into the concert realm. Art brings a vast vocabulary of musicianship and composition to a performance ensemble which strives for creativity, interaction and improvisational flexibility. Art is also a noted teacher who has devised innovative courses for improvisation and ear training. He has led improvisation workshops in many parts of the U.S., Canada, and Europe.

A native Texan, Doug Young began playing piano at age 6, switching to guitar as a teenager. He attended the Houston High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, earned three Student Downbeat Awards, a 1986 NAJE Young Talent Award, a NFAA Talent Search award, and the name "Khabu".
